Tied down by emotions, restricted by reality, art is often the best escape for people to release and reassess their current state of mind.
The series “FIGHT OR FLIGHT” by local artist Kay Wong is a beautiful collection that speaks directly to the idea. Framing and tying items she has collected during her trip to Denmark after the loss of a family member, an array of delicate struggles are artistically portrayed in the works. Where feathers and twigs are intertwined with leftover fabrics, these unused, forgotten, and discarded materials are now given a second chance to show their presence.
Perhaps a representation of the artist’s state of mind, whereby elements and memories are being held together by a tangle of threads, the artworks unveil countless textures and moments, open for a feast of interpretations.
I love the composition of each piece, and how the collective forms a strong body together. As if taking a glimpse into each challenging moment in Kay’s journey, we wish that the completion of these works also means her healing journey has begun.
