Simple, funny, bold, and expressive, no wonder the works by Justė Urbonavičiūtė aka Kissi Ussuki has caught the eyes of Izumi Ogino, Creative Director of ANTEPRIMA. Active in creative processes including photography and art direction on top of her illustrations, the Vilnius, Lithuania-based self-taught illustrator is covered by various media before.
Interestingly, all coverages mentioned her love for the colors “baby pink, lavender, and turquoise”. Her restricted palette turns out to be a deliberate choice, in order “not to get overwhelmed by all the possibilities“. She wishes that “people can laugh, relate and find details of their daily lives in my drawings. Or just get their eyes tickled by the colour combinations I use“, and her works did not disappoint.
She also mentioned how “easily obsessed with trendy fashion pieces” she can be, so I guess that’s why her drawings merged perfectly with ANTEPRIMA’s signature wirebag. The two have created a series of knitwear and everyday tees for SS20 as well, sharing the same “feminine yet sophisticated vibe in creation” and both acting “as an advocate of finding unconventional beauty”. Check out the Havana themed collection here and see how Kissi has interpreted Mariposa and Tocororo with her big shapes and attractive flat colors.
