Enhancing a print from being a simple decorative to becoming a vibrant, energy-inducing component is not as simple as just printing graphics on a piece of cloth.
Issey Miyake is featuring Ikko Tanaka’s graphics for its third time, recreating original works including the Gradation Series (1972), a series that features hiragana and letters which are transformed into circles and squares; the Work: Q Series (1972), a series that transforms the letter “Q” into spheres, cylinders, and other various shapes in predominately colors of primary colors and black; and the Rope Series (1974-1979), an iconic motif by the designer which refers to the Japanese-style knot tying technique as a complicated and fluid structure onto pleats and 100% polyester. The movement of the wearer breaths new life into the historical motifs and embodies the historical works under an everlasting, three-dimensional format.
