You guys must have seen the footage of the lighting performance from Fête des Lumières at Gare St Paul last year, where the architecture became the screen for a projected story, creating this magnificent visual which is not only site-specific, but it gave the site another dimension, making the locally recognised, or even the daily dismissed, building regain its deserved attention.
Moving such concept straight into Hong Kong, Lumieres Hong Kong will be happening on the 23rd to the 25th of November this year. Anticipating for it to highlight the value of our urbanscape, which is often neglected due to our the busy lifestyle here; I personally can’t wait to see what local and international artists have in store for us for this citywide project.
Sponsored by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, not only will light installations and video projections be debuted for three nights in a row; art pieces and dining experiences will also accompany the event, allowing locals and tourists to enjoy Hong Kong literally under a ‘new light’.
Jean-Francois Zurawik, Director of Events in Lyon, will be the artistic advisor for Lumieres Hong Kong so that the quality of what has happened in France can hopefully be implemented here as well. Turning landmarks in Central, Sheung Wan, and Tsim Sha Tsui into unique art pieces, this event will be an exciting happening for the whole city, not to mention that it is free for everyone to enjoy.
