I am lucky because I am an easy sleeper. However, that does not mean I always achieve good sleeping quality. I can sleep in a dimly lit room, whereas my other half prefers a completely dark room. At the end of the day, our sleeping routines are unique to ourselves, and we must not help but to admit that all of it is related to science and our relationship with the environment that we are in.
Instead of going for relaxing aromas or particular physical or spiritual practices before going to bed, I rather look into the science of lighting, which Philips appear to have a great solution for. Their latest Hue White Ambiance personal lighting system is a system that allows us to escape from the ringing alarm but still be able to wake up on an early morning.
Specially designed to “mimic the cycle of daylight”, the Hue White Ambiance system allow users to set up their own daily routine in order to achieve a healthier sleeping pattern over a long-term period. By inducing different lighting modes in the living environment, the level of melatonin, which is dictated by sunrise, can be lowered in order for the body to wake up naturally. Different modes include the Daytime Mode (for waking up), the Sleeping Mode (for rest), the Midnight Mode (for going back to sleep), as well as the Energize Mode (for exercise), the Concentration Mode (for work), the Read Mode (for reading), and The Relax Mode (for unwinding) are included. The right lighting mode can thus be saved into the system so that the user can simply retrieve it with the click of a button.
