Large-Scale Installation by Yin Xiuzhen

Most people probably don’t include the transit experience as a part of their traveling memories. I, on the other hand, have had lots of unforgettable moments in airports. This includes sprinting in the Bangkok airport trying to catch my next flight, spending hours in the Singapore airport exploring their cinema and sunflower garden, and not to mention, the countless meals I have had at the food court in Seattle airport.

While #staycation is the trending word now, we may be able to retrieve a sense of traveling locally, with the upcoming Sky Patch · In Transit, A large-scale installation at CHAT at The Mills, Hong Kong.

To be opened for the public at the end of this month, the artworks by artist Yin Xiuzhen invites visitors to “follow the common thread of textile to conduct both introspective and outward exploration of the relationship between the individual and their community.”

Using suitcase as the motive to represent the ideas of exploration and personal memory, audiences will get to see a total of 6 large installations and be greeted by works suspended in the air upon their arrival. Using materials such as recycled fabrics and garments, the hall will reenact an airport environment, where components such as baggage carousel, check-in counters, and airport security scanning booths are transformed into art pieces.
