At first it was just her art, but now I’m mesmerized with her words too.
Direct, touching and very relate-able; Naela Ali is an illustrator and the founder of @_asobi . Her artworks are influenced by the Japanese culture. Her gentle brush strokes and relaxed figures are not at all perfect, where at times the surface appears too flat or the feet seems totally awkward. Yet, what makes her art captivating is that one feeling it delivers, which could well differ from me and you, but definitely puts a mark in both of our hearts.
She also wrote @storiesforrainydays and have just released her book, Stories for Rainy Days. The special feeling that her artwork gives off resonates with her writing, which you can have a taste of on her tumblr page. Here is a segment of one of her articles which I really enjoyed:
“But now, things are different. We turned into strangers. He lives his life and I live mine. Love is a funny thing you know, you felt that it was so real and you thought you would die to live without that certain person, but then one day, you woke up feeling nothing about him. Like, the feeling was vanished just like that. And you can look at that person with nothing at all. Like, you often wonder, “How did I end up loving this man?” well, love is funny. Life is funny.”
