Yann Kebbi

We rarely, in fact, have never, covered a monoprint or engraving artist before. This is because we feel like we don’t know enough about the process to talk about it. Yet, everyone should be able to talk about what they enjoy looking at, and this is why we have decided to introduce this French artist if you haven’t already heard of his name before.

Yann Kebbi is a monoprint artists and drawer, and he is bringing his works as well as his sketchbooks to his Hong Kong exhibition at the agnès b.’s LIBRAIRIE GALERIE this month. He is inspired by his observations of daily life, and from those, he has created colorful compositions with his signature of strong and dynamic strokes. He also has a series of works dedicated to urban landscapes which we particularly enjoy. Simplistic yet evoking a sense of motion and emotions, his works are widely seen in publications such as The New Yorker, The New York Times, Liberation and The Tiger.

He has an interesting way of depicting perspective, where he is unafraid to play with different scales in his world. Even though his intentions are mainly graphical, he has expressed that “beyond the subject, figurative or not, I believe the way you draw, your stroke, can express something in itself.”
