For its fourth year, Art Central, in hands with Lead Partner United Overseas Bank, is returning to Central Harborfront at the end of March with 102 international galleries. Maintaining the fair’s strong regional identity, both young and recognized artists are continued to be featured. Charles Ross, Managing Director of Art Central, exclaims that the fair has developed into a strong cultural platform, and they welcome Shuyin Yang as Fair Director this year. “For the 2018 edition we are excited to elevate the collector and audience experience with immersive, engaging, and provocative presentations,” she said.
Some highlighted participants include Gallery Hyundai (Seoul), where they will showcase both historical materials by Chung Sang- Hwa and Kim Tschang-Yeul as well as contemporary works by painter Minjung Kim and photographer Myoung Ho Lee; Galerie Forsblom (Helsinki, Stockholm) which will present Tony Oursler, an acclaimed multimedia and installation artist with Not Vital, a multi-disciplinary artist; Whitestone Gallery (Hong Kong, Tokyo, Nagano, Taipei) will bring the works by Japanese movement Gutai, as well as contemporary artists Yayoi Kusama and Yoshitomo Nara; Galería Cayón (Madrid, Manila) will feature post-war art by Yves Klein, Jesus Rafael Soto and Fernando Zobel; Contemporary by Angela Li (Hong Kong) will showcase textured canvases by Lv Shanchuan and expendable paper sculptures and carved knife sculptures by Li Hongbo; Sundaram Tagore Gallery (Hong Kong, New York, Singapore) will be featuring both monumental landscapes in the nihonga style by Hiroshi Senju and works by rising Singaporean painter, Jane Lee; Metaphysical Art Gallery (Taipei) will feature kinetic sculptures by Choe U-Ram; Paul Stolper (London) will bring along the Pharmaceutical sculptures by Damien Hirst; Danysz Gallery (Paris, Shanghai) will be showcasing the large scale installation “When you see me I see you” (2017) by Liu Bolin; Richard Koh Fine Art (Malaysia, Singapore) will be featuring Anne Samat and her textile sculptures; Puerto Roja (Hong Kong) will be showcasing bamboo mobile sculptures of Laurent Martin ‘Lo’ and more; MARS Gallery (Melbourne) will feature seven contemporary sculptors including Daniel Agdag, Sollai Cartwright, Simon Finn, Lisa Roet, Jason Sims, Tricky Walsh, and Jud Wimhurst; and Flowers Gallery with present recent works by Korean photographer Boomoon and more.
Other highlighted solos include filmmaker and photographer Wing Shya’s “Sweet Sorrow” series, which “reads as a techni-colour love letter to the city that raised him”, as well as his portfolio sets of film stills made on the set of “In the Mood for Love” at Blue Lotus Gallery’s (Hong Kong) booth; the samsara-exploring mixed media installations by Pannaphan Yodmanee will be presented by La Lanta Fine Art (Thailand); the graphic and print works which ” deconstructs the notions of patriarchy, spirituality, and eroticism in Asian culture” by Hou Chun Ming will be showcased at Mizuiro Workshop’s (Taiwan) booth; and, last but not least, the soft and colorful and meditative sculptures inspired by marine life by Mulyana will be featured by Art Porters (Singapore).
