What is the ‘Graffuturism’? This term might be recognized in other parts of the world, but here in Hong Kong, it is obvious that we are not widely exposed to such a concept. As an artistic hybrid of cyber-futurism and suprematism, this style is vividly expressed by Scandinavian artist, Rubin415.

Recognized by his clean, geometric style which includes typography works and works that are inspired by the polar night, Rubin415 is an important name in the art scene of New York City, the city in which he currently resides. He first started tagging at an early age, involving himself with traditional graffiti, which explains why his works have a sense of dialogue to them, expressed in the forms of soft curves and sharp vertexes in dark tones and pale colors.

Apart from being recognized in NYC, his works have expanded to Thailand and have also been featured in the Miami Art Basel, Vice Magazine, Juxtapoz and more. Even though it is obvious that he roots his works in traditional graffiti, his Scandinavian background also comes through from his choice of palette. Drawing inspirations from “the skyline of the hectic metropolis versus the serenity of the Nordic nature”, his works are particularly poetic and elegantly balanced.
