Tennessee artist Charles Clay discusses about the meaning of space through his unique depiction of it via paper art. Layers and layers of carefully cut out colored paper builds itself into a 3d sculpture, verging into the space that viewers stand upon. The ultimate aim here is to shake up the viewer’s point of view; not only fulfilling you in a pure aesthetic way, but also to pull you into the strange but welcoming landscape in front of your eyes. Whether its a bulging out construction, or one that concave into the paper depth; the detail and precision used to make the artworks are just as fascinating as the final works itself. I especially enjoy the shadows that the hollow works has created on the walls that they are implanted onto; its like the virtual world comes to ours leaving traces behind to claim its actual existence in a different space.
