Even though the motifs used are very westernized viewpoints on the Chinese culture, (considering I’ve only ate out of one of those take away boxes a few times in my life versus the ugly white Styrofoam boxes and I’m full Chinese); the newest Shanghai Express collection by Charlotte Olympia is one that surrounds you with immense traditional eastern inspired details, textures, colors and the brand’s signature bubbly fun.
The aesthetics are obviously seen; but I also believe that the functionality of these handbags and heels are still somewhat balanced with their flamboyant outlooks. With ‘Take me Away’ box bags adorned with an acrylic glass handle tagged with the brand’s name, Han blue ‘Emperor’ ankle boots and hand- painted ‘Ming Vase’ heels as well as the ‘Festival’ lantern bag made with silk tassels just to name a few; each item is evident in showcasing what it’s trying to portray. Our favorite is definitely the more subtle pair of ‘Eternity’ knots featured knee- high stilettos in a Tiffany sort of blue; classy, sexy, but still true to the theme of the collection.
This Fall 2014 collection might feature a lot of motifs that are regularly seen on other Eastern inspired fashion items; but the innovation Charlotte Olympia has dug into her collection are tagged along with her unique wittiness, which is what that bring followers across the world to adore her brand.
