Right at the BTS Asok stop in Bangkok, Thailand; mall Terminal 21 is definitely the must visit shopping venue for those who are into fun, quirky, and “street style” type items like myself. As you might or might not know, Bangkok is full of malls; but to be honest they all contain much of the similar brands that are not especially cheap to buy in Thailand. I personally would say there is no point to visit H&M, Zara nor Forever 21 in Thailand because the styles are less of what we have in Hong Kong, and definitely more expensive than it is in North America.
So where is the best stop to get cheap but unique goods? I’m saying Terminal 21 is my favorite on the list. With a mall construction much like ones in Japan, having the smaller known brands on the top few floors and the bigger brands on the bottom; Abbaew on the 3rd floor took me, my mom and my boyfriend by surprise.
Specialized in selling jewelries and other accessories; I am not going to judge or assess if all their product designs are purely “original”. I have to admit some of the phone cases and sunglasses look familiar and reminds me of other products I’ve seen else where, but I was never able to exactly spell out where they might have copied it from which makes them sort of unique on their own too. Either way, I enjoyed the store and here I am telling you about it anyways.
There were a lot of snapbacks offered, in all over prints and colorful shades that screams for attention. The walls were covered with racks of earrings, necklaces and bracelets; with fellow Furby being dominating in quite a few of the displays. I don’t know why its a big thing here in Bangkok, but I would have to say they are awesomely fun and not seen anywhere here in Hong Kong. They are on metal bangles, as rings and as other decorative products. Feather tagged studs such as smiley faces or fruit buttons are also popular in stores here, which is also a design I’ve never seen anywhere else around Hong Kong or from our neighbouring brands in Asia. They’re not the usual dangly feather earrings, their end is just stuck to the stud and lays there like an unopened feather fan.
Apart from that, my shopping from the store were their phone cases. As Hong Kong is going super fast with their Samsung models, for someone like me who’s with a S3 when everyone else is on a S4, we’re hopeless in finding a case. Luckily, thats not true in Thailand. You can be on a S3, S4, iPhone 4, 5, you name it; and you’d most probably find a case suitable for you. I grabbed one seemingly to be by the brand themselves; squeezed with pastel colored paste all over with 3d toys stuck to its back. Mine in particular is of a Barbie head and “bling blings” which some might find scary; but to me they are so much fun! Find your Cinderella doll case or my Little Pony case at their store for several different phone models. My mom also got some blinged out standing mirrors with laces and teddy bears on top as souvenirs.
Not a huge store, with everything pretty much in sight; we still managed to spent quite some time in this store devouring through their immensely interesting selection of goods. So on your next trip, if you’re someone who’s up for quirky designs; Abbaew at Terminal 21 would be our recommendation to you for sure.
